One of the many considerations before purchasing a projector screen is the type. Today, I am going to discuss the different types of projector screens. Manufacturers have different types of projector screens, and it is important for buyers to be aware of what they are.
The difference between the projector screen type is in the type of screen material. The most common ones are made out of either cloth or an acrylic sheet, but there are some rarer types that use a special type of neoprene rubber coated with an aluminum oxide film.
There are also less common materials including Mylar, inflatable material, cellophane, and polyester film.
Different Types of projector screens
There are 6 types of projector screens available and they are:
- Pull Down Projector Screen
- Pull Up Projector Screen
- Fixed Projector Screen
- Portable Projector Screen
- Inflatable Projector Screen
- Motorized or Electric Projector Screen
1. Pull Down Projector Screen
When you have a projector with an image in mind and are ready to buy the projector screen, this is the way to go. Pull-down projector screens are suspended from the ceiling and or wall by heavy-duty straps or chains.
The purpose of these screens is so that your audience members can see the whole image without worrying about looking up at the sky if they don’t want to. More importantly, they make it easier for guests to access the area around your screen throughout the entire time of your event.
Another advantage of this type of projector screen is that it is easy to install. The installation process is not very difficult and you will only be able to spend a minimal amount of time on it.
2. Pull Up Projector Screen
This type of projector screen differs from the pull-down projector screens in that it has built-in legs that fold flat when the screen is retracted. This makes it easier to install, as you don’t have to deal with the heavy lifting and hanging of the screen material.
3. Fixed Projector Screen
Fixed projector screens are mounted in your room’s ceiling or wall. This type of projector screen can be made from either cloth or an acrylic sheet. Since fixed projector screens are heavier than pull-down projector screens, they can be more expensive. However, they are very durable and often much easier to install than pull-down projector screens.
There is no way to remove them unless you want to eliminate them completely from your walls. If you want to be able to take them down at any time when you have events, you will need to invest in a wireless remote control that can work with a projector screen.
4. Portable Projector Screen
A portable projector screen is also convenient for multiple uses. These screens are quite small and lightweight, making them easy to store and carry around from one place to another.
There are some types of portable projector screens that come with its own carrying bag or an umbrella-like case that allows you to carry it around without any problems. The major disadvantage of these types of projector screens is its weight as they are significantly heavier compared to the other types of projector screens.
5. Inflatable Projector Screen
An inflatable projector screen is also a great choice for those who want to have a portable projector screen and want to watch movies or games outdoor. It is lighter and more portable compare to the other types of projector screens.
They are ideal for outdoor use compared to other types of projector screens due to its material which is made out of vinyl fabric and PVC tubing. It is also very easy to install, inflate, deflate, and carry around from one place to another.
6. Motorized or Electric Projector Screen
This type of projector screen can be controlled by remote control. If you want a large image on your wall or ceiling, this can be the best choice for you as it comes in different sizes and widths.
Some of these projector screens come with their own carrying bag or an umbrella-like case that allows you to carry it around without any problems. If you want the image to stay up for a longer period of time, make sure to choose the motorized type over the traditional type.
What are the main differences among these different types of projector screens?
The main differences are from materials and automatic open systems.
The advantage of a pull-down projector screen is that it can be folded up and put away after the screening, giving you more space for storage. The disadvantage is that they are bulky and cost more to ship than the other types.
The pull-up projector screen is similar to the pull-down style in most ways, except that instead of folding down, it folds up into itself with legs built in so you can use it like a regular whiteboard too. It doesn’t offer any storage advantages over a well-made fixed mount screen, so unless you need its capability as a whiteboard I’d go with one of those instead.
The fixed projector screen is made of a material that can be assembled into a wall bracket that holds the screen onto the wall. The material is usually made out of acrylic. There are many ways to mount this type of screen, but the most common is to use building-grade drywall anchors.
These come in different sizes so you can choose one that will hold your screen in place best. The advantage of having it mounted onto the wall is that it can be removed and stored. This means you won’t have to worry about it being damaged by storing it on a drop shelf or something similar since there’s no way it would stay up by itself. The disadvantage is that it can be hard to install and may not work well in a smaller room.
Portable projector screens are the best choice if you plan on taking the screen from place to place. They are also good if you need to be able to put it up and down really fast because they can be set up by one person pretty quickly. The disadvantage is that they do have a tendency to be very heavy and usually cannot go as large of a size as some of the others.
Which projector screen types you should choose?
Most of the time, you will be looking for one that’s lightweight and easy to store. If you aren’t going to use it frequently, then even a portable projector screen would be a good choice. There are several types of material and technological solutions that will make dealing with your projector screen easier.
Most people who purchase a projector screen choose the pull-down type because of its ease of installation, storage capabilities, and ability to be broken down for storage when not in use.
The pull-down type is also the most affordable choice for most people who are just starting out in using their new screen. The fixed-mount projector screen is the most stable type of screen because it can be mounted on the wall or ceiling and is removed only to clean.
You can go for the inflatable screen if you plan to watch any movies or games outdoor with your family and friends. They are suitable for your outdoor movie theater.
This is all I have to share on different projector screen types. I hope this post will be useful and informative for you. You can leave your comments below if you have anything else to say on this topic.
