In Horizon Zero Dawn, special battery artifacts known as Power Cells are crucial for unlocking one of the most powerful equipment pieces available to Aloy. Finding all of these hidden items requires exploring specific ruins across the map, many of which are tied directly to major story campaign locations. Understanding how to locate these items and power up the secret bunker gives players a distinct advantage during tough combat encounters.

What Power Cells Are Used For

Power Cells are essential quest items needed to complete the optional side mission titled Ancient Armory. Collecting all five cells allows Aloy to restore power to a subterranean Old World facility.

Once all power circuits are fully restored through door puzzles, players gain access to the incredible Shield-Weaver outfit. This special armor creates a protective barrier that absorbs incoming damage completely before recharging automatically.

Finding Power Cells in Early Game Ruins

The first cell can be found within the underground ruins that Aloy falls into as a young child during the prologue. Returning as an adult allows her to pry open a locked doorway using her spear and grab the cell off a desk.

A second cell rests inside the All-Mother Temple located at Mother's Watch. Players can grab this item shortly after completing The Proving mission by searching through a side ventilation shaft.

Locating Power Cells in Mid to Late Game Missions

The third Power Cell is hidden at the very top of the massive skyscraper scaled during the Maker's End campaign quest. After reaching Faro's office at the peak, players must climb the ruined scaffolding even higher to discover the item on a high ledge.

A fourth cell is located inside the icy ruins of The Grave-Hoard facility. Players can discover this item in a side chamber shortly after solving the ring mechanism puzzles required for story progression.

Unlocking the Shield-Weaver Armor

The final Power Cell is located deep within the GAIA Prime ruins, accessible during the late-game quest called The Mountain That Fell. Searching a side cave near the cliffside descent before following the main objective marker reveals the final item.

With all five cells retrieved, return to the Ancient Armory bunker to slot them into the power terminals. Solving the two holographic clock alignment puzzles completely unlocks the chamber, allowing Aloy to claim her defensive prize.
